Request A
Lookup
We offer a free lookup service
to anyone in need.
Before requesting a lookup please take the time to read the following.
This will insure good use of time on both our parts & a higher potential to
generate results!
This service pertains to material in our personal collection, acquired over
time. We list these online to help others who may also be able to use them in
their research. We currently do not have the resources to assist in general
research at this time. These materials are located throughout our web
site, mainly in our "Where" section (a partial list is below).
Note: Requests are not processed
during holidays or the days between Thanksgiving &
New Years. Those sent during this time are held
until processing resumes.
If you have your Call Number click here to

WHAT IS A LOOKUP REQUEST?
A
lookup request is simply that- requesting a lookup. Kindred Roots
Genealogical Society owns a great deal of genealogic/historic books & media.
We list them on our web site with a call number (see below). Anyone who
thinks a particular title may contain information on an individual or family
they are researching they can fill out a request & send it to us. We take
the information you give us, using the title you specify, & look for the names.
If we find data we will email it to you with the source information. If we
find data in a title that we are sure does not have a copyright we may scan &
email you a copy.
WHAT IS A CALL NUMBER?
We
have hundreds & hundreds of titles for our viewers to choose from. The
easiest way your you to communicate the exact title & the easiest way for us to
find it in our collection is the give each of our titles a call number (just
like a library). Our call numbers look similar to this: CT HAR.33 MAN.
These numbers are just as important as the name of the person you are enquiring
about. Without it we do not know where to begin your search! It is
important to know that call numbers are listed for these titles throughout our
web in coordination locations. As an example, if you were looking for
information on Major Samuel Pierce click "Who" from our main page, then click
"Piece" to open the appropriate page. This page will list all, if any,
materials we have available for lookup requests.
WHAT IS REQUIRED IN EACH LOOKUP REQUEST?
All request
must contain a
surname, given name, & a
call number.
This gives us the person to look for & the book to look in.
You are welcome to add more information to assist us, but remember that too much
can make it just as hard as not enough. We may not be familiar with your
family & we honestly do not have the time to get to know them beyond looking for
their data in a book!
WHAT CAN I DO TO ENSURE A SPEEDY & FRUITFUL RESULT?
There
are lots of things that help & hurt requests. Here are the major mistakes
people make:
1.
Don't forget the call number (see explanation above)! If it is missing
from your request or is illegible we cannot process
your lookup. Locate a Call Number Before filling out the form! These
Call Numbers tell us where a title is located on our shelves & looks like or
similar to this .
